Big Dreams For 2025
Happy New Year! It is officially 2025 (which doesn't feel like an actual year), which means it is time for New Year’s resolutions. We never need to wait until New Year’s Day to make significant changes in our lives. In fact, waiting for a hard deadline to start can diminish our motivation to actually achieve those goals. That being said, it is a natural reset point to pick some new dreams to focus on in the year to come.
Before we select the dreams we will focus on in 2025, I want to encourage you to make, review, or restart a list of 100 dreams for your lifetime. Hopefully you’ve checked some off that need to be replaced. Or, if you’re like me, you have completely lost the list, so you need to start over. Maybe you’ve never done one before, though, so as a reminder, here are the rules.
You must get to 100 dreams
The reason we do 100 isn’t really because it is a magic number. It’s the number many self-help books preach, but there isn’t any data or study to back it up. If you want to pick a different number, then go for it, but make sure it adds value to your list rather than taking a shortcut. I like 100 for me because it is tough to do. It forces us to really think about the things that we want and open ourselves up to new opportunities. It also helps us break those massive goals into smaller pieces because getting a book published may be a dream, but we can also dream of finding a literary agent, getting a book deal, and meeting XYZ person to do the illustrations. Having victories on the way to victories is a great way to keep us motivated and excited.
2. The dreams can be any size at all
Some are going to be massive and seemingly impossible to achieve, and some are going to feel so small that you could probably tackle them tomorrow if you really wanted to. Dreams come in all shapes and sizes, and I want all of them on that list.
3. All is fair when it comes to dreaming
This isn’t really a rule, but there is no such thing as cheating when it comes to making these dream lists. We will have the burning desires and the “well, that would be nice” on this list. That’s the point, which means that we can look at someone else’s dreams and life to find inspiration for the things that might become dreams for us.
So now that we’ve established the rules, I will practice what I preach and remake my dream list since I can’t find the one I made last year. I only looked for about thirty seconds, so I’m sure it’s out there, but there’s nothing wrong with starting over and seeing what has changed. I’m going to publish that list on Friday, and then come Monday, I will have chosen exactly which 12 dreams I will focus on bringing to fruition in 2025. If you’ve already got a plan for the New Year, then don’t hold back on starting it today, but being able to start a “resolution” on any day of the year will aid us in this journey, so my resolution may not kick in until January 6th and that’s ok with me.
